The Visit of PBI Delegation

The FCO funds the visits of outstanding British Muslims to offshore, especially Muslim, countries on a yearly basis. The objective of Projecting British Islam (PBI) is to form a platform by defining and correcting the wrong perceptions in offshore countries on the facts about British Muslims and by underlining their integral role in British society. A PBI delegation will visit Turkey from 10th trough 14th March, 2009. The objective of the visit can be outlined as below:
- To create public platforms, attended by top level authorities, by which British Muslims can encourage every sector of Turkish society to undertake a more active role in fighting extremist activities as a part of regional and global Islam society and of the Alliance of Civilizations;
- To promote the support, both in Turkey and in the UK, by British Muslims and the government of the United Kingdom for the EU membership of Turkey;
- To develop partnerships between British and Turkish Muslims for a more effective communication between Turkish and European actors of civil society, including women’s and youth groups;
- To create platforms needed to clarify the important role of British Muslim communities in the UK and Europe as an integral part of society.
